All members are required to subscribe to the following Code of Ethics:

Section A. Purpose

Section B. Breeding

            The breeder should:

2.       Learn and understand the American Azawakh Association Standard for the breed, and breed with the intention of conforming to it.

3.       Choose only healthy, American Azawakh Association, American Kennel Club, States Kennel Club, FCI or United Kennel Club parents of good temperament and qualities, free from known disqualifying faults.

4.       Breed only mature bitches and provide facilities for excellent prenatal and postnatal care for dam and puppies.

5.       Refuse to breed a stud dog or brood bitch to any dog which is markedly inferior physically and/or temperamentally, and qualify your refusal.

Section C. Health

The owner should maintain the best possible standards of canine nutrition, health cleanliness and veterinary care, including mental health, such as contact with people and exposure to the outside world.

Section D. Registration

The owner should breed only AAA, AKC FSS, FCI, UKC or SKC registered purebred Azawakhs to other registered purebred Azawakhs and keep accurate records of matings and pedigrees. Owners of Azawakhs should register all dogs with the American Azawakh Association Registrar and abide by the rules of the AAA.

Section E. Sales

            The owner/breeder should:

1.       Not breed, sell or consign puppies or adults to pet shops or other commercial dealers.

2.       Urge puppy purchasers to spay or neuter all pets which for any reason may not be qualified, or will not be used for breeding.

3.       Honestly evaluate the quality of the Azawakh to be sold and fairly represent that evaluation.

4.       Not release puppies to new homes before they are seven weeks of age, and furnish details of feeding, general care, medical inoculations, pedigree, etc.

5.       Screen all prospective buyers to assure that puppies will have a safe and loving home.

6.       Follow up on puppies and dogs after the sale to insure their continued care and to encourage owners to become involved in purebred dog activities (show, obedience. lure coursing, etc.)

Section F. Sportsmanship

The owner/breeder should always conduct himself/herself in a manner which will reflect credit upon himself/herself, his/her Azawakh and the sport of purebred dogs, regardless of location or circumstance.
